The Old English Father Christmas tells the stories of St. Nicholas, the protector of children throughout the ages on Thursday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m. Learn the origin of St. Nicholas characters in various countries, popular Christmas symbols, and Worldwide Christmas Traditions.

 

Charles B. Phillips Library Fundraiser -- Charlie's Fall Fling

Bring your family and friends to Charles B. Phillips Library's Fundraiser, Charlie's Fall Fling on Saturday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) at 13820 County Line Road Newark, IL (Meadowlands Farm). Play old-fashion games, stop by the Redbud Creek Farm stand, enjoy great music by Kevin & the Infinite Possibilities, free popcorn provided by Heartland Bank, purchase taffy apples from Newark PTO, get lost in a corn maze, create festive fall crafts, go on a hay ride and much more!

                                                                                                        

                                                                                                                                              

Admission fee is $5 and food will be available at an additional cost. For any questions contact the library at 815.695.5851. Help raise funds for Charles B. Phillips Library's programming.

National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out is Tuesday, August 7 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Front Street Park in Newark.

Meet Louisa May Alcott

In celebration of the classic book Little Women turning 150 years old, Leslie Goddard will be portraying the author, Louisa May Alcott on Thursday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. Miss Alcott will share stories of her poverty-filled childhood, her struggles to succeed as a writer, and how Little Women came to be. “Newark High school was indeed a family affair.” Local author, Lynnette Diane Hall Johnson will be at the library on Thursday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss her memoir; Growing Up Hall and Tall: A Memoir of Living in the Bosom of a Large Family. Her book addresses living on a farm, memories of attending Newark High, to other memories of local towns including, Lisbon and Morris.

Beth Randall will outline the best tips and ideas for making your garage sale successful on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. You will learn how to price your items, how to get the crowds to come to your sale, and most importantly how to get the customers to make a purchase! Beth is very knowledgeable on the art of garage sales and will share all the  inside secrets with you.

In honor of Black History month, Terrance Lynch will be portraying the owner of a “Safe House” in Illinois on Thursday, February 15  at 6:30 p.m. Hear how a safe house was used as a stopping point for slaves to gain rest and nourishment before going on to safety in Canada. Several safe houses in the Chicagoland area will be highlighted.
